The automotive paint manufacturer PPG has created a new generation of eco-friendly paint for vehicle bodywork in collaboration with Ferrari. The idea is already being tested at the supercar factory in Maranello (Italy).
Its purpose is to optimise manufacturing processes, as well as quality, for more uniform, durable finishes.
The aim is greater water resistance, making it easier to dry carbon fibre and other new materials present in the bodywork together, to achieve a more uniform colour.
In addition, the new eco-friendly paint formulated by PPG incorporates a clear coat specially designed to allow a vehicle to be dried at 100 °C. The brand reminds us that, until now, this was being done at 150 °C. In this way, the Maranello factory manages to reduce energy consumption significantly.
Finally, the new clear coat includes a hardener that improves the chemical and mechanical resistance of the coating. In other words, it delivers a more durable finish.
Eco-friendly paint has many benefits, and this is why most major manufacturers turn to it in every sector and field.
